Materials & Care

Every Hey Rosie piece starts with a simple question: does this material deserve to be made into something? We choose our materials carefully — for how they feel, how they last, and what they cost the planet.

What We Use

Mohair & Wool Blends The heart of our knitwear. We use superkid mohair and wool for their exceptional softness, warmth, and natural durability. A small amount of recycled polyamide is added to protect these fine fibers and extend the life of each piece — because the most sustainable garment is one that lasts.

We prefer RMS (Responsible Mohair Standard) and RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) certified yarns, sourced from trusted Italian spinners. We're not fully there yet across every yarn, but it's where we're headed — and each season we get closer.

Organic Cotton For our cut & sew pieces, we work with organic cotton — grown without harmful pesticides and gentler on both the environment and the people who handle it.

Deadstock Fabrics We also work with carefully selected deadstock — leftover fabrics from other production runs that would otherwise go to waste. Every deadstock piece is unique, and using it is one of the most direct ways we know to reduce textile waste.

Our Preference: OEKO-TEX Where possible, we choose OEKO-TEX certified materials — tested for harmful substances and safe for you and the environment. Like our certification journey with fibers, this is a direction we're committed to, not just a box we tick.

How to Care for Your Pieces

A well-cared-for Hey Rosie piece will last you years. Here's how to keep it looking and feeling its best.

Knitwear — Mohair & Wool Blends

  • Hand wash in cool water with a gentle detergent, or use a wool/delicate cycle on your machine at 30°C maximum
  • Never wring or twist — gently squeeze out excess water
  • Lay flat to dry away from direct heat or sunlight
  • Store folded, not hanging — hanging can stretch fine knitwear over time
  • A fabric comb or gentle lint roller keeps mohair looking fresh

Cut & Sew — Cotton & Woven Fabrics

  • Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle
  • Tumble dry on low or lay flat to dry
  • Iron on a low setting if needed
  • Check the care label on each piece — deadstock fabrics can vary and we'll always tell you what that specific piece needs

General Tips

  • Wash less, air more — most pieces benefit from airing out between wears rather than washing every time
  • Treat stains promptly and gently rather than washing the whole piece
  • Store knitwear folded in a cool, dry place — cedar balls are a natural friend against moths
